The Department of Public Works will continue providing essential services to our residents, including garbage and recycling collection. These will remain on the same schedule as they are now.
Please follow these simple guidelines when putting your garbage or recycling out for collection:
WHEN: Cart must be out by 7:30 am on Collection Day.
WHERE you should place your cart:
• Place carts at the curbline or alleyline depending on designated collection location.
• Store carts away from the alleyline or curbline when it is not your collection day.
HOW carts should be set out:
• The arrow on the lid must point to the street or alley and the handle must face the house.
• Place at least 4′ from parked cars and at least 4′ from objects (mailboxes, buildings, fences, utility poles, other carts, bulk waste items, etc.).
• LOOK UP! Do not place cart under low-hanging branches or powerlines.
• Regular household trash must be placed INSIDE the cart. Garbage on the outside of the cart will not be collected.
• Do not overload cart. The lid should always be kept closed to control odors and animals. This will also keep out rainwater.
• All waste should be sealed in plastic bags
THESE ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED:
• Branches/yard trimmings
• building materials
• hot ashes
• motor oil, solvents
• paints
• pool chemicals
• hazardous materials
• flammable liquids
• dead animals
For the safety of our drivers, there will be no exceptions to these guidelines. Public Works staff will be limited at this time, please direct any questions to (906) 786-1842, rbecotte@escanaba.org or wtaavola@escanaba.org and we will answer them as best that we can.
Thank you for your cooperation and please stay safe.
