The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported Wednesday afternoon that the state’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has jumped to 28,059, which is 1,058 more cases in the past 24 hours.
There have now been 1,921 deaths reported in Michigan due to the virus.
That’s 153 more deaths in the past 24 hours statewide.
The overwhelming majority of the cases and deaths are in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties, surrounding the City of Detroit.
There are 54 reported COVID-19 cases in the Upper Peninsula: 27 in Marquette County, nine in Delta County, four in Mackinac County, four in Gogebic County, three in Dickinson County, three in Schoolcraft County, two in Houghton County, and one each Menominee and Luce Counties.
There are nine deaths reported in the Upper Peninsula. Five in Marquette County, two in Dickinson County, and one each in Delta and Gogebic Counties.
There was one new case reported in the U.P. on Wednesday (in Marquette County) . There were no new deaths reported in the U.P.
The state says that 433 people have recovered across the state, but that was last updated on Saturday and is only updated on Saturdays.

Note on recovery: During this response, MDHHS is reviewing vital records statistics to identify any laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases who are 30 days out from their onset of illness to represent recovery status. As the pandemic continues to impact Michigan, this pool will expand to include more cases. Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available). The number of persons recovered on April 10, 2020 represents COVID-19 confirmed individuals with an onset date on or prior to March 11, 2020. These numbers will be updated every Saturday.
