A home was heavily damaged by fire Monday night in Schoolcraft County.
Manistique Public Safety and Volunteer Fire Officers were called to 7570W Smith Lake Road in Manistique Township at about 5:00 on Monday afternoon. The location was eleven miles north of the City of Manistique, and when officers got there, they determined that the fire started in the wall of the laundry room.
The flames spread into the attic and downward into the attached garage.
Officers needed less than 30 minutes to contol the fire, but they needed to put out numerous hot spots in the building and had to vent the roof. They cleared the scene at 7:30 Monday night.
There were no injuries reported. Investigators believe the fire was electrical and had started in tha laundry room.
The home, owned by Mark and Lisa Ozoga of Manistique, is still standing, but suffered severe water, smoke, and fire damage. They were home at the time of the blaze, but were able to get out OK.
Manistqiue Public Safety was assisted by the Hiawatha, Inwood, annd Thompson Township Fire Departments. The Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Natural Resources also helped out.
