Grants Approved By M&M Community Foundation

The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) recently awarded grants during their Spring Grant Cycle.   The following endowments, held at the MMACF, provided funding:

Peshtigo Area Community Fund

• The grant to Peshtigo Middle/High School Skills USA will purchase materials to build a robotics training course to be used at competitions.
• Peshtigo Lions Club will use their award to develop a handicapped fishing pond and access area including an American with Disabilities Act compliant fishing pier.

Crivitz Area Fund

• Crivitz-Stephenson Historical Society will use their grant to make the collection of photographs and documents available in a more accessible way to community members.
• Northwood’s Apostolic Church will use their award to host an annual community Thanksgiving dinner.
• Crivitz Rescue Squad will use funds to expand their community garden.

Youth Field of Interest Fund

• Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Menominee County received a $10,000 capacity-building grant to continue their vital operations during these unprecedented times.
• Funds awarded to the Coleman School District are designated for their Academic and Career Planning Inspire Project offered through CESA 8.
• Camp New Day U.P. will use funds to reimagine their summer camp program for children who have been impacted by the incarceration of a parent or family member.
• Books for students from early childhood through 3^rd grade will be purchased by the Crivitz Area Women’s Club.
• Marinette County Public Health received a grant to purchase bike helmets for their Bike to Pool program.  A second grant is directed to their Child Passenger Safety Program to purchase car seats for low income families across Marinette County.
• iPads will be purchased for the Children’s Theatre at UWGB-Marinette Campus.
• Crivitz School District received a grant for their Clothes for Change project which provides free or low cost clothing and hygiene supplies to high school students.
• During the 2020 – 2021 school year, the Menominee Area Public Schools will purchase healthy snacks for K-12 students to have on weekends.

Community Wide Fund

• Menominee County Library plans to use funding towards their goal of providing free public WiFi at all Township Hall parking lots across Menominee county.
• The capacity-building grant awarded to the Marinette and Oconto Counties Literacy Council will pay for rent and internet access at their new office in Coleman.
• Veterans will receive gas and grocery cards from the award received by Marinette County Elderly Services.
• Survivors of domestic violence will receive support for critical services including security needs and therapy from the award received by The Rainbow House.
• Faithorn Township will purchase a generator and pay for installation of a diverter so the Township Hall can be used in emergency situations.
• River Cities Community Pool Association will utilize a $10,000 capacity-building grant to maintain their mission of serving the Tri-City area.
• New computers will be purchased for the clients with special needs at Wausaukee Enterprises.
• Funding provided to the Coleman Area Library Association will help secured the operational future of the Coleman-Pound Area Library.
• Camp Daniel in Athelstane will build a concrete ramp and path for their campers with physical disabilities.

Twin Counties Emergency Service Providers Fund

• City of Niagara Police Department will use funds for training and equipment necessary for a mass casualty incident.
• Funding for the Pound Fire Department will be used to purchase two sets of fire compliant coats and pants.
• Cold water rescue gear will be updated by the City of Marinette Fire Department.
• A grant to the Crivitz Rescue Squad will cover the cost of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) training.

Homelessness Prevention Services Fund

• A grant to The Salvation Army will be used to provide financial assistance to help local residents avoid eviction or shut off of necessary utilities as well as providing education to promote self-advocacy.

Alcohol and Other Drugs Fund

• The $8,000 capacity-building grant awarded to the Marinette County Group Home Association will be used for strategic planning and fund development to open a new sober living recovery house for people struggling with substance abuse.
• City of Menominee will use their funding toward the purchase of a K-9 containment system for a police department patrol vehicle.
