Upper Peninsula Adds 19 New Positive Tests; No New Deaths

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 1,121 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, and seven new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added nine more deaths to the state total. Those people could have died days or weeks ago. The MDHHS checks through death certificates three times a week to match positive test results.

Michigan now has 90,392 positive test results since the crisis began five months ago, and 6,289 total deaths.

Thursday’s 1,121 positive tests came from more than 40,000 diagnostic test results that added to the state total.

As of Thursday, Michigan has completed 2,483,009 tests. Of those, 2,249,441 tests are diagnostic tests, and 233,568 tests were for antibodies.

The Upper Peninsula saw 19 new cases on Thursday. Six of the positive test results came in Marquette County.

Gogebic County added five more positive test results, and there were four added in Menominee County.

There were two new cases in Ontonagon County and one each in Delta and Houghton Counties.

The Upper Peninsula has had a total of 734 positive tests since the crisis began in March.

No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday.

The last death reported in the U.P. was on June 26 in Iron County. Before that, the most recent death was on May 24, in Marquette County.

The state reports 96 “probable” cases for the Upper Peninsula, as of Thursday.

Statewide as of Thursday, there have been 9,464 “probable” cases, and 266 deaths are listed as probable. This is where COVID-19 is suspected, but there is no positive test result to confirm it.

The MDHHS has reported steady increases in the number of people who have recovered after testing positive or being diagnosed with COVID-19. State officials now say that 63,636 people have recovered, which means they are still alive at least 30 days after diagnosis or onset. That’s an additional 3.614 recoveries in the past week. This number is updated every Saturday.
