The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 419 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, and eight new deaths.
The state also went through death certificates and matched them with previous positive test results. They added eleven new deaths with that method.
Michigan now has 94,697 positive test results since the crisis began five months ago, and 6,368 total deaths.
Thursday’s 419 positive cases came from roughly 31,000 new diagnostic tests that were added to the statewide total.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were five new cases reported on Thursday, with three in Marquette County and one each in Alger and Mackinac Counties. Thursday’s numbers were delayed by several hours.
The U.P. has a total of 852 confirmed positive test results since the first case was reported back in March.
No new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday.
The last death reported in the U.P. was on June 26 in Iron County. Before that, the most recent death was on May 24, in Marquette County.
Statewide as of Thursday, there have been 9,921 “probable” cases, and 266 deaths are listed as probable. This is where COVID-19 is suspected, but there is no positive test result to confirm it.
The state reports 128 “probable” cases for the Upper Peninsula, as of Thursday.
As of Thursday, Michigan has completed 2,698,409 tests. Of those, 2,455,187 tests are diagnostic tests, and 243,222 tests were for antibodies.
The MDHHS says that 67,778 people have recovered, which means they are still alive at least 30 days after diagnosis or onset. That’s an additional 4,142 recoveries in the past week. This is updated every Saturday.
