The Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of a new executive director. Kayla Nicholson, most recently employed at Lake Superior State University, has accepted the position of executive director for the Downtown Development Authority, and began in the position on September 14th, 2020.
Director Nicholson is excited to begin working as DDA Director for Downtown Sault Ste. Marie, and brings a tremendous amount of passion, dedication, and strong work ethic to the position.
Director Nicholson comes from a varied background that includes everything from agribusiness to marketing, to guiding student tours. She developed a passion for historic downtowns, having grown up in her home town of Athens, Ohio, a community known for terrific downtown festivals and events, great architecture, and challenges similar to Downtown Sault Ste. Marie’s.
“I’m excited to bring fresh ideas to Downtown Sault Ste. Marie,” said Kayla Nicholson, “and I’m looking for to diving deeper into the community, and getting to know everyone.” Downtown Development Board Chair Allison Youngs said, “The downtown has seen vast improvement over the past few years and we are excited to have Kayla further the progress that the DDA has made and bring fresh new ideas to the Sault.”
