The Marquette County Health Department on Monday issued a statement saying that the coronavirus response efforts, including the mask mandate, are still being enforced, This after the Michigan Supreme Court on Friday declared Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders as unconstitutional.
The health department said that the rules can still be enforced by state and local health officials. Medical Officer Patrick Jacuzzo noted that the case counts for the virus now are worse than they were earlier in the pandemic.’
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Sunday she would not enforce the executive orders now that theu have been decaled illegal. But she, and the governor, both say that the health departments can enforce them.
