New Virus Cases Continue Decline Across Michigan, U.P.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday reported 739 new coronavirus positive tests and 33 new deaths.

Michigan now has a total of 889,001 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 19,209 deaths.

Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 13 new cases reported on Wednesday, with no county adding more than two. Two counties: Ontonagon and Keweenaw Counties, had a case subtracted from their totals.

One new death was reported in Iron County.

The U.P. now has 19,999 confirmed positive test results, and 432 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 5,620 probable cases and 95 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also has 104,421 “probable cases” and 1,214 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The state also is reporting that 818,165 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. That is an increase of 26,000 recoveries in the past week.
