CLICK TO LISTEN TO INTERVIEW WITH ROSY’S OWNER, ANDY FIELDS
A popular downtown Escanaba eatery was set to re-open Friday morning under new ownership.
Rosy’s Diner, in the 1300 block of Ludington Street, is now owned by Andy Fields, who managed the Hudson’s Classic Grill restaurant until just recently.
“It feels great,” Fields told RRN News. “It’s been a dream of mine forever, actually, to be honest. And being able to do do this with my wife, and my family, people that I know, it means everything.”
The diner first opened in 1950 when it was called “You Need Lunch”, then it was Tommies, and then for the last two-plus decades, Rosy’s.
The restaurant under former owner Rosy Cox was named a top diner in the “Travel and Leisure” magazine in 2018, and on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Cox owned it from 1999 until this summer, cooking and serving the food mostly by herself. Fields says he’s not looking to reinvent the wheel.
“We’re not going to be making wholesale changes anytime soon,” Fields said. “We’re going to keep the Rosy’s menu going. We’ll tweak it here and there as we see fit, but Rosy had a really good thing going here, and we just want to keep it going for the community.”
Fields says they will keep the name Rosy’s, and the restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. six days a week. They will be closed on Wednesdays.
“I love cooking,” Fields said. “I love the whole customer side of things. And I definitely wouldn’t be doing this without my wife. We welcome you with open arms, we’ll always treat you right, and we’ll give you a quality meal at a fair price.”
