Voters in the North Central Area Schools have approved a 10-point-3 million dollar bond issue to help pay for the consolidation of the schools in Powers and Hermansville into one. The vote was 589 yes to 423 no, amid heavy turnout for an off-year election.
“I’ve got a lot of emotions coursing through me right now,” NCA Superintendent Travis Depuydt told RRN News. “A great day for our students, our district, and our community, Just a fantastic evening to be a Jet. There’s been a lot of positive feedback that we’ve received from the community regarding the plan that we have and what we’re trying to do. To get 1,000 people to turn out to vote really speaks to the support we get from the community.”
The money from the bond issue will combine with a $15 million dollar state grant that was approved earlier this year, making for a $26.3 million dollar project. Depuydt says the goal is to begin construction in 2027 and open the new building in 2028.
