After many years of working in tandem with the city to maintain the parking garage adjacent to MyMichigan Medical Center Sault in Sault Ste. Marie, MyMichigan Health has officially purchased the structure, which serves patients, families and staff daily.
MyMichigan leaders say the acquisition is an investment in safety, convenience and long-term community health. Providing convenient parking that is physically attached to the hospital, with a covered walk offering protection from rain and snow, ensures safe and reliable access. A new state-of-the-art security system with cameras will be installed, and MyMichigan will continue making investments to its infrastructure. Better utilization of the parking garage also opens up opportunities for expansion and improvement projects at the Medical Center to enhance care for patients.
“This investment in our community will solidify our campus, and we plan to take excellent care of the structure,” said Kevin Kalchik, president of MyMichigan Medical Center Sault. “It will help us carry out our Purpose of Creating Healthy Communities – Together long into the future. We’ve had a fantastic relationship with the City over the years, and we plan to carry that forward.”
Parking passes will be available for purchase and hourly and daily rates will remain in place. No significant price increases are anticipated.
Kalchik also expressed gratitude to the Community Action Agency for relinquishing property adjacent to the garage, which allowed MyMichigan to assume ownership and responsibility for the facility. “We appreciate them greatly as a community partner,” he said.
The purchase not only secures safe and convenient parking but also opens new opportunities for future growth. “By more fully utilizing the garage, we’re opening up space on campus for future expansion and improvements,” said Ben Zoppa, facilities manager at MyMichigan Medical Center Sault. “This investment gives us flexibility to grow and continue meeting the health care needs of our community.”
The acquisition of the parking garage marks a long-term investment in both the Medical Center and the community. By ensuring safe, accessible and well-maintained parking, MyMichigan Health is reinforcing its commitment to patients, visitors and residents of the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
