On Saturday around 8:50 PM, the Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police responded to residences on Carlshend Road for an animal on animal bite complaint.
A neighbor of Kyle Beauchemin reported that his donkey was attacked by one of Beauchemin’s dog. The Sheriff’s Office deputy and MSP trooper attempted to make contact with Beauchemin at his residence and there was no answer. The officers cleared the location pending contact with Beauchemin.
Around 9:50 PM, the Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police were dispatched to Kyle Beauchemin’s residence for a domestic/hostage situation. It was reported that Beauchemin was in the residence with four children, his girlfriend, and an estimated 28 pit bull mix dogs in and around the residence.
Investigation into the incident led to the Sheriff’s Office obtaining an arrest warrant for Beauchemin and a search warrant for Beauchemin’s residence. The Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team was activated to assist in resolving the situation.
On Sunday around 5:00 AM, trained negotiators started attempting to get Beauchemin to exit the residence peacefully. Negotiations continued until a tactical entry was made into the residence around 10:50 AM. Beauchemin resisted while being taken into custody and assaulted some of the MSP Emergency Support Team troopers. The girlfriend and children were uninjured. One of the dogs had to be dispatched during the entry into the residence.
Beauchemin was lodged in the Marquette County Jail. He was arraigned this afternoon in the 96th District Court on the following charges:
1) Unlawful Imprisonment, $500,000 bond
2) Domestic Violence, 10% of 500,000 bond
This incident remains under investigation. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Michigan State Police, Forsyth Township Police, Skandia/West Branch EMS, Forsyth Township EMS, UPHS-EMS, Community Covenant Church, and UPAWS.
