Menominee County Judge Mary Barglind on Thursday granted multiple motions to intervene in ongoing lawsuits involving marijuana licensing in the City of Menominee, adding several new parties to two closely related cases.
During a lengthy court hearing, the judge addressed intervention requests in both the Plemel and Puff cases against the City, noting that no formal written objections had been filed.
The judge acknowledged concerns raised by attorneys about added complexity and potential delays but said the legal standards for intervention were met.
One attorney for Puff Cannabis raised concerns about timing, noting the business has been ready to open since July. The court also clarified that a previously issued preliminary injunction remains in effect, maintaining the status quo and preventing additional marijuana licenses from being issued while the cases proceed.
Looking ahead, the judge ordered the parties into facilitated mediation with retired Judge James Rashid within the next forty-five days, saying mediation could help resolve or narrow the issues.
The court also scheduled motions for summary disposition beginning March 5th with additional hearings set into April. A status conference is planned for early May. The litigation centers on how marijuana licenses are issued in Menominee following voter-approved limits and competing claims by multiple cannabis businesses.
