Peshtigo Police arrested a Menominee man Monday after reports of a suspicious individual possibly carrying a weapon inside Peshtigo High School.
Officers were called to the school around 11:43 a.m. after a student working a school blood drive reported a man acting unusually and appearing to have a bulging object under his shirt that she believed could be a gun. The caller also said the man remained in the gym longer than expected after donating blood.
Police located the man inside the gymnasium and moved him to a private office, where he was detained and searched. Officers found a loaded handgun tucked inside his shirt, along with two knives and a flashlight.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Trevor Sterling Salwesky of Menominee. He was arrested and transported to the Marinette County Jail.
Authorities say once at the jail, Salwesky managed to remove his handcuffs without officers realizing it. While pretending to still be restrained, he allegedly assaulted several officers. Tasers were used, and additional staff responded to regain control.
Salwesky is facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm on school grounds, battery to law enforcement and correctional officers, attempted escape, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct. The case has been referred to the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office. Salwesky remains in custody pending court proceedings.
