The Michigan State Police (MSP) Eighth District is seeking new troopers for the Upper Peninsula, and the window to apply for upcoming recruit schools is closing soon.
While positions are available statewide, the Eighth District is particularly seeking individuals who want to live and serve in communities throughout the Upper Peninsula. Individuals must submit applications by March 2, 2026, to be eligible for either of the upcoming July 2026 trooper recruit schools. Applicants must also complete and pass the baseline fitness test and the entry level law enforcement exam by March 15, 2026.
MSP will host a Recruiting Information Session on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eighth District Headquarters, 1924 Industrial Parkway, Suite A, Marquette, Michigan 49855. The free session is open to anyone interested in becoming a trooper, current applicants, or students interested in cadet or internship opportunities.
Attendees will learn about:
• The hiring process
• Post assignments and placement
• Competitive pay and retirement benefits, including earning approximately $5,000 per month during recruit school and top trooper base pay over $100,000 per year
• Career advancement and specialized assignments
• Cadet positions and internship opportunities
• Fitness standards and testing requirements
• Recruit school expectations
• A question and answer session with troopers and district leadership
