CLICK TO HEAR JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH EPSD CAPT. AUSTIN YOUNG
A firefighter and another person were hurt early Saturday morning in a fire at Escanaba’s Harbor Tower Apartments. Escanaba Public Safety says the call came in at just after 4:00 in the morning, and the source of the blaze was quickly located and it was quickly brought under control. Residents were evacuated for a little over an hour before being allowed to return to their apartments.
“We had an isolated incident in one of the rooms,” Escanaba Public Safety Captain Austin Young told RRN News Saturday morning. “We were able to quickly respond there and get that under control. The rest was preventative with the smoke and trying to see where the smoke spread to throughout the Harbor Tower.”
“I’m way up there on 16 (floor),” Harbor Tower resident Amber Nelson told RRN News while holding her cat in her arms. “It (the fire) was way down there. They were really quick about evacuating everyone. I knew before it even got bad enough to be concerned. Luckily this doesn’t happen very often.”
Some residents’ apartments suffered smoke and water damage and they are being assisted by the Red Cross. No details about the two injuries were released.
