A Marinette man will spend years behind bars after a Menominee County jury convicted him in a case involving three teenagers and a dangerous vehicle chase.
Thirty-eight-year-old Kevin Paul Richwalski was sentenced to concurrent prison terms of five to ten years for two counts of Assault With Intent to Commit Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder. He was also sentenced on two counts of Felonious Assault, Operating While Intoxicated, and Reckless Driving.
The charges stem from an incident on July first of last year at Lighthouse Park in Menominee.
Prosecutors say Richwalski confronted three teenagers, threatened them with a chain, and attempted to strike them with his truck. When the teens drove away, investigators say Richwalski chased them at speeds approaching one hundred miles per hour before crashing into a utility pole near a Dollar Tree parking lot on Tenth Street.
Following an April jury trial, Richwalski was convicted on six of the eight charges filed against him.
At sentencing, Judge Christopher Ninomiya called the evidence “overwhelming” and told Richwalski he could have killed himself, the teenagers, or others during the incident.
Menominee County Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg praised Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Gerald Karafa for securing the conviction and said Richwalski’s extensive criminal history made him a threat to public safety.
