A St. Ignace man has been arrested and arraigned on a felony charge stemming from the alleged theft of funds from the Mackinac County Animal Shelter.
In July 2025, the Michigan State Police (MSP) St. Ignace Post received a report that a person with connections to the Mackinac County Animal Shelter was suspected of taking money intended for the shelter. The investigation indicates that more than $20,000 in donations intended for the shelter was taken and redirected to another nonprofit organization called the Mackinac Animal Aid Association. The suspect was the president of the Mackinac Animal Aid Association.
Following the investigation, a felony arrest warrant was issued for 63-year-old Andrew Valentine from St. Ignace. On June 10, 2026, troopers from the St. Ignace Post arrested Valentine and lodged him in the Mackinac County Jail.
On June 11, 2026, Valentine was arraigned in the 92nd District Court on one count of Larceny by Conversion- $20,000 or More. Valentine was given a personal recognizance bond and released. The defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
