State officials say the jobless rate was at 5.9 percent, compared to 6.2 percent in May of 2025. The jobless is also down by four-tenths of a percentage point from April’s unemployment rate, which was at 6.3 percent.
Overall, the state estimates that the UP had 7,900 people unemployed across the 15 counties in the region in May.
