United Airlines has announced a delay to the planned launch of its new service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport (MQT) following the extension of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) flight schedule cap at ORD.
Earlier in July, the FAA announced an extension to the departure restrictions at ORD that were originally instituted in Spring of 2026. This additional extension limits ORD departure capacity through October 31, 2027 and has been implemented primarily to limit congestion during ongoing construction projects expected to last through Summer 2027.
As a result, United Airlines is delaying the start of its inaugural ORD–MQT service and intends to start service from Chicago once the FAA order expires.
“While an additional delay to this much anticipated service is unfortunate, we understand the regulatory constraints in place and recognize this order to be in interest of safety for the flying public.” said David Erhart, Airport Manager. “We appreciate United Airlines’ continued partnership and commitment to establishing this service for the Marquette community, and we look forward to its launch after the flight cap lifted.”
