A new manufacturing operation planned for the former Acer property could eventually bring more than 500 jobs to Marinette County.
Ironwood Power Systems is moving forward with plans for the property at 970 Ogden Street. The project recently went before the City of Peshtigo’s Industrial Park Oversight Committee and Plan Commission, where representatives discussed redevelopment of the existing facility, a new office addition, parking, truck access and other site improvements.
But one of the biggest numbers connected to the project is the potential number of employees.
Nick Jungles, Director of Ironwood Systems, says the operation will start with about 40 workers, with plans for significant growth. Ironwood will focus on prefabrication work primarily for MJ Electric, while also supporting Quanta as a whole. Jungles says the facility will support the electrical infrastructure business.
Jungles describes Ironwood as an indoor prefabrication manufacturing operation designed to support work needed by MJ Electric.
At the city meeting, representatives said the existing building will also receive exterior improvements, while plans call for a roughly 50-thousand-square-foot, two-story office addition.
The city also reviewed parking, outdoor storage, utilities, stormwater drainage and plans to combine parcels at the property through a Certified Survey Map.
The site plan was approved with continued work on that Certified Survey Map, and representatives indicated initial work could begin as early as October fifth.
For now, Jungles says Ironwood is still in the early stages. With about 40 employees expected during the initial ramp-up, and a five-year plan reaching approximately 530, Ironwood Systems could eventually establish a sizable manufacturing operation at the former Acer property.
