The Michigan legislature will be working late into the night and into tomorrow morning to take action on literally dozens of pieces of legislation that have been put off to the last minute…or are trying to be squeezed through before the end of the legislative session.
Upper Peninsula State Senator Tom Casperson told the Radio Results Network this afternoon that the bills are coming fast and furious, and many should have been dealt with a long time ago.
“Now it’s a matter of the two chambers working together, and making sure that both sides are heard, and that there’s a fair sxchange of bills, at this point, because there’s so many of them,” Casperson told RRN News. “If there would have been a little more negotiation, or the term I use is ‘big boy pants’ put on a long time ago, we could have avoided some of this. But, it’s where we’re at, the leadership in both chambers will work through their differences, and by late tonight or early tomorrow, we’ll have this thing resolved.”
This is Casperson’s final day on the Senate floor, as his term ends on December 31st. Fellow Republican Ed McBroom was elected last month to take his place, and he was scheduled to have a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony at 4:00 this afternoon in Escanaba.
