The Legislature passed a supplemental budget early Friday morning that included funding for Northern Michigan University’s capital outlay project to significantly renovate the school’s Jacobetti Complex.
The transformational project aims to provide a model career-technical educational environment, including a manufacturing design center and flexible laboratories for skilled trades learning, as well as business-industry product and equipment testing and training. In response, state Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following statement:
“I’m pleased Northern will receive the funding necessary to move forward with this exciting project, which will enhance educational opportunities for students and help reduce the shortage of skilled professionals in our state and region. This project scored high among capital outlay projects competing for funding throughout the state because NMU has aligned itself strategically to meet the growing needs of business and industry, which will create growth and opportunity for students and the university as a whole.”
