LISTEN TO COMMENTS FROM STATE SENATOR TOM CASPERSON
This weekend will be the last for Tom Casperson as he wraps up his time as a Michigan legislator.
The Escanaba Republican has served the last eight years in the state senate, after serving three two-year terms in the state house before that. He says he leaves office feeling that he did the best he could for the people of the Upper Peninsula.
“I can’t thank the people of the 38th District enough,” Casperson told RRN News. “To be able to serve where I was born and raised is pretty special to me. I would hope that people would have noticed that I tried to work hard at it, tried to be honest with people. Didn’t always agree with everybody, but I always tried to be straight with them when I didn’t.”
Casperson has had a rough year dealing with cancer while still trying to serve the 12-county district. But he says that his health is improved.
“I’m doing really well,” Casperson said. “My health is really good. The cancer is going in the right direction: it’s leaving, which I’m pretty excited about.”
So, what’s next for Casperson?
“In the short term, Ed (Senator-elect McBroom) has asked me to come on board with him, so I’m going to reverse roles with Ed,” Casperson said. “Ed’s going to be the senator, and I’m honored to be working with him right now.”
