LISTEN TO JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH DAVE HARTLEY, DON’S HEATING AND COOLING
It’s been a busy time for the men and women who service your furnaces during this cold snap. Dave Hartley at Don’s Heating and Cooling in Escanaba tells the Radio Results Network that he had to help three “frozen houses” today alone because they had energy-efficiency systems that don’t take into account the extreme cold.
“Make sure you’re not using a set-back thermostat,” Hartley said this afternoon between jobs. “Keep your temperatures steady throughout the day and throughout the night. When you use a set-back, things cool down, and with the wind chills we’ve been having, we’re seeing a lot of frozen pipes right now.”
Hartley says there are also problems with furnaces as well.
“Right now, we’re seeing a lot of (clogged) filters,” Hartley told RRN News. “People need to know to keep up with their filters. We highly recommend that once a month, you at least look at your filter and make sure it’s clear.”
He adds that if you use a space heater, make sure you are very careful with them because fires can easily start with supplemental heat sources like that.
