The Alger County Sheriff’s Office has released information about three separate snowmobile accidents that happened Saturday, February 9, in Alger County. All three incidents involved excessive speed and are still under investigation.
- At approximately 2:15 pm, the Alger County Sheriff’s office received a report of a snowmobile accident on Trail #7 in Autrain Township. Alger County Sheriff’s Deputies, DNR Officer’s, Alger County EMS , MSP, Alger County Rescue 21 and Valley Med Flight were dispatched to the scene. The investigation concluded that a 38 year old male failed to negotiate a curve in the trail, left the trail and ultimately struck a tree. The patient was extricated from the Trail by Alger County Rescue 21 and was ultimately transported to UP Health Systems in Marquette by Valley Med Flight. The condition of the patient remains unknown. Excessive speed is believed to be the main contributing factor. Names are being withheld until family notifications can be made. - At approximately 4:22 pm, the Alger County Sheriff’s office received another report of a snowmobile accident on Trail #7 in Autrain Township. Alger County Sheriff’s Deputies, DNR Officer’s, Alger County EMSand Alger County Rescue 21 were dispatched to the scene.The investigation concluded that a 35 year old male failed to negotiate a curve in the trail, left the trail and ultimately struck a tree. The patient was extricated from the trail by Alger County Rescue 21 and was transported to Munising Memorial Hospital by Alger County EMS. The condition of the patient remains unknown. Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors. The victim’s name is being withheld until family notifications can be made.
- At approximately 5:30pm, the Alger County Sheriff’s office received a report of a snowmobile accident on Trail #8 in Burt Township. Alger County Sheriff’s Deputies, Alger EMS, Alger County Rescue 21 and Valley Med Flight were dispatched to the scene. The investigation concluded that a 40 year old male was traveling eastbound on Trail #8 when he struck a large mogul in the trail. The operator lost control of the snowmobile, was ejected from the snowmobile and landed on the trail approximately 150’ from the point of ejection. The patient was extricated from the trail by Alger County Rescue 21 to the Trailhead at the Kingston Plains parking area. He was transported from the scene to UP Health Systems by Valley Med Flight. The condition of the patient remains unknown at this time. Excessive speed is believed to be the contributing factor. Names are being withheld until family notificationscan be made.
