Troopers were dispatched to a snowmobile vs. motor vehicle personal injury crash on Lake Annie Road and Trail 3 in Franklin Township on Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:20 p.m.
Troopers advise Timothy Young, a 53 year old Houghton man, was traveling south on the trail and failed to yield to traffic while crossing Lake Annie Road when he was struck by a 2001 Subaru being driven by Stephen Wright, a 21 year old man from Atlantic Mine.
Life-saving efforts were performed by responders at the scene; however the driver of the snowmobile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was not injured in the crash. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
The crash remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Mercy Ambulance, Hancock Police Department, and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department.
