Police in Forsyth Township released this statement on Thursday as the investigation continues into Tuesday’s incident where a woman suffered a gunshot wound inside a Gwinn home.
“Due to inconsistencies revealed during the ongoing investigation, Forysth Township Police Department wants to reiterate that there is not threat to the community, as it does not appear there ever was a suspect in this case. Based on information provided on the original call, officers took all precautions to ensure the safety of our community, to include the soft lockdown of the school due to its close proximity to the call location.”
A woman was shot inside a Gwinn home Tuesday afternoon, and the suspect ran away, leading to a lockdown nearby at the Gwinn Middle/High School.
Forsyth Township Police Chief Joseph Fitzgerald says the incident happened at 12:20 this afternoon at a residence on Stephenson Street. Police investigated what was a home invasion report, and when officers went inside the home, they found a woman with a single gunshot wound. She was taken by ambulance to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment.
Police are looking for a “tall, slender man, wearing black clothing”. If you know anything about the incident, or the suspect, call Forsyth Police at 346-9224.
Police say that there is no threat to the public.
The Gwinn Community Schools said that the “precautionary lockdown” has been lifted. Forsyth Police were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department.
