Heavy snow is falling across much of the Upper Peninsula this afternoon.
The National Weather Service says that we could see upwards of eight inches of snow in the western U-P, where a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect.
In the Escanaba area, it has been a mixture of rain and snow, and has turned to snow this afternoon, with roads becoming snow-covered and slippery there as well.
Schools in Marquette and Gwinn dismissed early today, and there will be no after-school activities at the Stephenson Schools today. The YMCA in Marquette and Negaunee will both close at 7:00 this evening.
As of 4:00 this afternoon, the snow had not reached the Marquette area. But it as been snowing all day in Menominee.
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect throughout the Central U-P until 2:00 tonight. Winter Storm warnings are in effect from Marquette/Dickinson County west.
