Today Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bill 4061 to designate a portion of M-53 in Macomb County between 31 Mile Road and 32 Mile Road as the “Chief Petty Officer Jason Freiwald Memorial Highway.” Chief Petty Officer Jason Freiwald was killed in Afghanistan in the line of duty in September, 2008. He was 30 years old.
“Chief Petty Officer Jason Freiwald was an American hero who dedicated his life to protecting our country and our state,” said Whitmer. “I’m proud to sign a bill that honors his service, and am committed to ensuring his legacy lives on and his family has the support they need.”
Chief Petty Officer Jason Freiwald was born in Utica, Michigan and graduated from Armada Senior High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
House Bill 4061, sponsored by Representative Jeff Yaroch (R-Richmond), passed both chambers of the Michigan Legislature unanimously.
