An Ishpeming woman says that a water pipe broke under her home during the severe winter weather and leaked more than a million gallons of water into the drain under the home.
Ashley Cody shared a photo on Facebook Wednesday night of a water bill in the amount of 18-thousand-709 dollars. She says that the city did not come to read her meter due to deep snow, and so the leak went undetected for quite some time. She says she didn’t post the photo to give the City of Ishpeming a bad name, just wants to make sure that others don’t end up in her situation.
Her Facebook post was shared more than 17-hundred times and generated more than 6-hundred comments in just twelve hours.
The Ishpeming City Council meets on May 8th, and Cody is hoping it will adopt a “catastrophic water loss” policy to protect customers in situations like this.
