The search has been suspended in the Menominee River for a missing fisherman who went overboard Monday on the choppy waters near the US-41 Interstate Bridge that connects Menominee and Marinette.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says that 58-year-old Benjamin Tart of Iron River was fishing with his 21-year-old nephew at 10:30 Monday morning when he apparently tried to lift an anchor. The younger man was saved, but Tart has not been found.
Menominee and Marinette search and rescue teams searched all day Monday and Tuesday, with no success either day. The Michigan and Wisconsin DNR both sent help, and numerous private citizens showed up on Tuesday with their fishing boats and electronic equipment to lend a hand. Tart is described as 6-foot, 250 pounds and was wearing a Carhart-type jacket.
