The City of Escanaba Recreation Department graciously accepts two expression swings from the GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club to incorporate into Ludington Park. Recreation Director Kim Peterson stated, “The expression swings are a great asset to the park and provides a special interaction to swing with your child.”
The idea came from Kay Johnson while she walking through a playground in Appleton, WI with her granddaughter, and she saw a unique swing. It had an adult seat with a toddler seat attached to it. Kay placed her granddaughter into the seat and enjoyed swinging while watching her granddaughter laugh!
The swing is called a “Multi-Generational” swing and it enables the caretaker to place a child into the seat so they can look at each other while swinging back and forth. Kay was so excited about the swing that she contacted the Appleton Recreation Director to obtain more information.
Once she gained enough information, Kay brought the idea to purchase this equipment to the GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club.
The GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club, a local group of approximately 70 ladies, agreed to utilize funds from their annual “Party With a Purpose” Charity Ball to purchase three swings. Two have been placed in Escanaba parks and one will be placed in Gladstone.
Recreation Director Kim Peterson agreed to partnering with the GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club to purchase and install the equipment. Kim Peterson worked with Gladstone Recreation Director Nicole Sanderson to add one swing to a park in Gladstone too.
Members of the GFWC Woman’s Club are so pleased to add these Multi-Generational swings for people old and young to enjoy! The group meets September through May and welcome new members.
