Congressman Jack Bergman issued the following release after the United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development, announced nine investments through the Community Facilities Grant Program:
“I’m thankful that President Trump and Secretary Perdue continue investing in rural communities across northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Through the Community Facilities Grant Program, USDA Rural Development has continued to show its commitment to First District constituents and the safety and well-being of rural residents.”
The Rural Development investment will be used by the city of Escanaba to purchase an emergency response vehicle. The vehicle will be used to transport rescue equipment, hazmat, fire and police especially through severe weather conditions. The new vehicle will improve emergency services provided to residents of the area.
This Rural Development investment will be used by the city of Manistique for the purchase of a patrol vehicle. The police department is the only 24 hour police patrol and response in Manistique and Schoolcraft County. The new vehicle will improve the safety and security services offered by the police department.
This Rural Development investment will be used by Inwood Township to purchase a fire tanker truck. This vehicle will be used in tandem with another tanker truck. Depending on the fire call location, a deleted tanker will need to travel miles to obtain a water source to get refilled. The addition of this vehicle will likely save life and property.
This Rural Development investment will be used by the city of Kingsford to purchase a patrol vehicle. The police department maintains a 24-hour road patrol. The new vehicle will enhance the protection of residents throughout Kingsford.
Houghton County and Drummond Island also received grants, along with several in northern Lower Michigan.
