On 5/31/19 at approximately 4:27 pm, Escanaba Public Safety Officers were dispatched for a vehicle fire west of Escanaba in the 4900 block of US 2 & 41. Upon arrival, the vehicle was on the north shoulder of the road with the engine compartment and front passenger compartment engulfed in flames. Officers attacked the fire and extinguished it after a short time.
A small area of grass on the shoulder of the road had to be extinguished also. Both lanes of traffic had to be shut down for a short time while the fire was being extinguished. The passenger from the vehicle complained of inhaling smoke, but refused an ambulance.
There were no other injuries. The fire is still under investigation.
