CLICK TO HEAR JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH REP. BERGMAN
Thursday was the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, which became a turning point for the Allies in World War Two.
Upper Peninsula Congressman Jack Bergman is a retired Marine Three-Star General who served for more than 25 years.
“It’s a somber day, but it’s also a day that we should never lose hope in our ability, especially as Americans, to do the right thing no matter what the personal risk is,” Bergman told RRN News this afternoon.
“The young men who were on that beach, you know, or coming off the Higgins Boats that day, knew that regardless of whether or not they came back, that they were doing the right thing for the families, and for others. They were resolved. I mean, they were truly resolved, and there is a message in there for all of us, that we really don’t know where life is going to take us, and what it’s going to challenge us with. They stepped up when the country asked.”
Also Thursday, Bergman celebrated the rollout of the V-A Mission Act program, which expands medical services available for veterans across the country, which he says expands the services that were available under the Choice Act.
“The quality and availability of health care for our veterans, all across the country, but especially in the rural areas, that’s the key thing to roll out today,” Bergman said. “The V-A has been working on this since we passed the Mission Act literally a year ago. This now provides in-home care for pre-911veterans. Before, in the Choice Act, it was only post-911 veterans.”
The VA MISSION Act:
- Provides a new, streamlined community care program;
- Gives Veterans more choices and greater control over their healthcare;
- Expands walk-in and urgent care access for Veterans;
- Allows for easier scheduling and timely reimbursements to community providers; and
- Increases access to timely quality care for Veterans enrolled in the VA healthcare system, no matter where they live.
