Kent Wesley King, 40, of Escanaba was sentenced to 5 years 11 months to 15 years in prison. King was sentenced following the entry of a guilty plea to Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm or by Strangulation. King entered his plea as a 2nd Habitual Offender.
On March 21, 2019, Escanaba Department of Public Safety officers received a complaint of an assault that had occurred earlier that day.
The victim reported that King had become enraged when she attempted to leave the residence and shoved her.
King then got on top of her, grabbed her by the throat, and began strangling her. King eventually let go of her neck, but when the victim tried to get away, forcibly flipped her over from her stomach to her back. In doing so, King twisted her knee and an audible pop was heard.
