A construction mishap gave motorists quite a scare on US 41 in Marquette Township Thursday. A dump truck at the roundabout project near the intersection of 41 and County Road HQ was transporting gravel when it accidentally pulled down three power lines.
Motorist Tim Schumann was driving at the time the incident occurred.
“Driving out towards Wal-Mart, I had my window down in my truck, and I heard a loud cracking noise,” Schumann told RRN News. “So I looked over to my left to see what it was, and it was a utility pole. It was kind of cracked as if lightning bolt had hit it. And then the line fell in front of me in the road. It happened really slowly. I felt lucky that I wasn’t a few feet ahead.”
Power to businesses on the eastbound side of the road was limited for a short while afterward.
