LMAS District Health Department has lifted all alerts for South Manistique Lake after test results returned on August 22, 2019 were well within acceptable limits for e.coli. It is important to remember that all lakes contain e.coli from wildlife.
All lakes will experience an increase in e.coli after rain events, and when there are high winds – the increased wave action churns up the bottom sediments that contain e.coli from settled wildlife excrement. Officers from the Michigan DNR are at the lake today continuing their investigation for the original source of the initial sewage event at South Manistique Lake.
We appreciate the information and observations from the public during this event. Please continue to contact our LMAS offices with any information about any sewage discharge in South Manistique Lake. Call us at 906-293-5107; or 800-562-4832.
