Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors of the Gary Abrahamson, Jr. Memory Care Center announced that the 2020 Par-Tee Fundraising Dinner has been cancelled this year.
The Par-Tee was originally scheduled for April 23, 2020 at the Island Resort and Casino. However, the Island Resort and Casino has closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and recently announced on its website: “For the safety and well-being of our community, guests and employees, Island Resort & Casino is temporarily closed until further notice.”
Therefore, there is no way to know precisely when this venue will re-open, which makes re-scheduling the 2020 event impossible at this point.
“While this decision was a difficult one, in light of the continued uncertainty about the future, we decided that it is best to cancel the Par-Tee this year for everyone’s safety,” said Mary Uelmen, who works in the Mission Advancement Office at the Bishop Noa Home and manages the Gary Abrahamson, Jr. Memory Care Center (GAJMCC). “The Board of Directors of the Memory Care Center and I feel that holding a fundraiser this year would not be the right thing to do, since our community and many of our local businesses may be struggling financially for the coming months.
“We are thankful to all those who purchased tickets and all of our generous Par-Tee sponsors,” Uelmen added. “For those who purchased tickets, we will honor them for next year’s Par-Tee on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Island Resort and Casino; please keep your tickets.”
The GAJMCC thanks the following sponsors for their donations: Dr. Mary and Gary Whitmer, Patricia & Jeffrey Abrahamson, Andex Industries, Anonymous Donors, Bishop Noa Home, Community Foundation for Delta County, Delta County Credit Union, Dynamic Design Group, First Bank, First Presbyterian Church, JA Glynn Investments, Johnson’s Distributing, Fr. Joseph Gouin, The Daniel J. Kobasic Foundation, Thomas Krause, OSF St. Francis Hospital, Brian & Deb Pahnke, Taylor, Lord & Hughes, Inc. Insurance Agency, Thrivent Financial, Tom Torres, U.P. Rehab., U.P. State Credit Union, Vast Solutions, WDBC-WYKX Studios, Chuck Zuehlke, and all of the committee workers.
“We would like to thank the community for their continued support,” Uelmen added, “and have everyone look forward to next year’s Par-Tee, which will be held on Thursday, April 15 at the Island Resort and Casino.”
The Par-Tee raises money for the GAJMCC, a mission sponsored by the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres, and is solely funded by donations. The GAJMCC, located at 2635 1st Ave. S., Escanaba, provides care for those struggling with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related illnesses and holds free education seminars for the community.
