For the first time ever, Serendipity, Bay College’s annual publication featuring student talent in the areas of writing and visual arts, has been released in digital format.
The publication is a conglomeration of pieces submitted by students and then put together by student editors.
This year’s editors are Halle Gustafson for art and Grace Kraniak for writing. Kristine Granger, faculty advisor for the art portion, stated:
“Serendipity is typically distributed in hard copy at an event on campus, however, this format was not an option this year. Therefore, even though hard copies may be released later on, the team decided to problem solve and find another way to honor the publication for now, being through digital means.”
Amber Kinonen, faculty advisor for the writing, stated, “We hope Serendipity will be a positive endcap to the 2019-2020 academic year and will serve as further evidence of us finding creative ways to continue on with our work.”
The team who completed the publication also included Shawn Curtin, Bay College’s Digital Web Tech Specialist, who focused on making the publication digitally accessible.
Serendipity includes poetry, essay writing, photography, sculpture, drawing, painting, and wood carving. We invite you to peruse the pages of our publication to find out how grit helped one student through the rigors of basic training, how a cooking guru inspired a student to ready and compete in a body building competition, and learn of the moment when a landlord realized he was the main character of a story told by his tenant.
Serendipity can be viewed in its entirety on the Bay College Arts and Culture web page at https://www.baycollege.edu/on-campus/arts-culture/index.php or on the Bay College Facebook page.
