Munising Memorial Hospital says a person from Lower Michigan visiting a second home in Alger County has tested positive for the coronavirus. Contact with other people was minimal and the person has since traveled back downstate. The positive test does not count toward Alger County’s total, which is still zero.
LMAS District Health Department has received notice of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a person visiting their seasonal home in Alger County and had minimal contact with others while in the area.
LMAS staff have completed the case investigation and have communicated with individuals who were in contact with the case. Those individuals will be monitored appropriately.
The Health Department urges our communities to continue to practice handwashing, wearing a cloth face covering while in public enclosed spaces, and maintaining physical distance from those who are not part of your immediate household to keep yourself and others safe.
Although the state has opened a few more businesses and services in the Upper Peninsula, it is very important that residents do not let their guard now. LMAS appreciates businesses and local residents who are working so hard to keep themselves and others safe and healthy.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, a sudden loss of taste or smell, fatigue, or headache, should contact their physician’s office for guidance.
