Dozens of people protested against police brutality in downtown Marquette Sunday afternoon, with many standing in the middle of the Washington-Third Street intersection near the Marquette County Courthouse.
The protests came in the wake of last week’s death of unarmed George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.
The Marquette protests were peaceful, with many holding signs such as “Black Lives Matter”. Some were banging drums and cheering loudly, as some drivers in the area honked their horns in support.
Some people in attendance decided to direct traffic and others handed out bottled water to protestors.
There were also protests held on Saturday afternoon, with one person filmed stepping onto the front of a Marquette City Police car.
Unlike in many other parts of the country that were devastated by riots, fires, and looting, there was no violence in Marquette. No arrests were made, there has been no property damage, and no injuries.
Activists plan to hit the streets again Monday afternoon, once again in front of the post office, and in front of the police station.
