Michigan Adds 353 Cases As Testing Increases; Two New U.P. Cases

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported on Thursday afternoon that there were 353 new positive coronavirus cases in the state, and there were 19 new deaths in the state.

Michigan’s new positive cases come as testing continues to be ramped up significantly. Nearly 21,000 test results were reported Thursday alone, and the number of positive tests was 1.68 percent.

As of Thursday, the state completed 1,128,330 tests, including 148,912 tests for antibodies and 979,418 diagnostic tests.

Michigan now has 62,306 confirmed positive cases and 5,887 COVID-19 deaths.

There were two new cases reported in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday: one each in Menominee and Iron Counties.

There have been 142 confirmed positive cases and 16 deaths linked to COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula. The vast majority of the positive cases have recovered.

There have also been eight “probable” cases listed in the Upper Peninsula, including two new ones Thursday in Menominee County and one new one in Delta County.

Michigan also tracks “probable” cases and deaths. Those are people who do not have a positive test result confirmed, but health officials believe their illnesses or deaths were related to COVID-19. As of Thursday, the state lists an additional 6,683 cases and 247 deaths in the “probable” category.

There has not been a COVID-related death reported in the U.P. since May 30.

State officials also say that nearly 50,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus in Michigan.
