For the first time since March, there were no reported coronavirus deaths in Michigan on Sunday.
This comes after just three deaths were reported in Michigan on Saturday.
Also, across the border in Wisconsin, no new deaths were reported either Saturday or Sunday, although positive test results there have risen.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported on Sunday afternoon that there were 343 new positive coronavirus cases in the state.
Michigan now has 65,876 confirmed positive cases and 5,972 COVID-19 deaths.
There were six new cases reported in the Upper Peninsula on Sunday: two in Menominee County and one each in Marquette, Houghton, Chippewa, and Schoolcraft Counties.
There have been 196 confirmed positive cases and 18 deaths linked to COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula in the three-and-a-half months of this pandemic.
Ontonagon County reported its first case as well, becoming the last state in Michigan to have a confirmed positive COVID-19 test result on Saturday.
The state now lists 52,891 people as having “recovered”. This means that they are still alive at least 30 days after having a positive test confirmed, or being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Michigan also tracks “probable” cases and deaths. Those are people who do not have a positive test result confirmed, but health officials believe their illnesses or deaths were related to COVID-19.
As of Sunday, the state lists an additional 7,065 cases and 246 deaths in the “probable” category.
There have also been ten “probable” cases listed in the Upper Peninsula.

Note on recovery: During this response, MDHHS is reviewing vital records statistics to identify any laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases who are 30 days out from their onset of illness to represent recovery status. As the pandemic continues to impact Michigan, this pool will expand to include more cases. Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available). The number of persons recovered on July 3, 2020 represents COVID-19 confirmed individuals with an onset date on or prior to June 3, 2020. If an individual dies from a COVID-related cause >30 days from onset/referral, they are removed from the number of persons recovered. These numbers will be updated every Saturday.
