The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported Wednesday afternoon 891 new coronavirus cases and four new deaths.
Michigan now has 71,197 confirmed positive cases and 6,085 COVID-19 deaths.
The 891 new cases reported Wednesday was the largest in two months, but also came from the largest daily number of tests reported.
The state had 35,802 diagnostic test results come in on Wednesday.
There were 13 new cases reported in the U.P. on Wednesday. Five of them were in Marquette County.
Menominee, Gogebic, and Delta Counties all added two new cases. Alger and Houghton Counties added one new case each.
After the state report was issued, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department reported five new positive test results in Dickinson County. Those were not included in the state numbers, but will likely be added to Thursday’s report. They are included in the numbers posted below.
There have now been 298 confirmed positive cases and 19 deaths linked to COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula in the nearly four months of this pandemic.
Chippewa and Baraga Counties both had one case removed from the totals that were reported on Tuesday by the MDHHS.
Michigan also tracks “probable” cases and deaths. Those are people who do not have a positive test result confirmed, but health officials believe their illnesses or deaths were related to COVID-19.
As of Wedessday, the state lists an additional 7,716 cases and 245 deaths in the “probable” category.
There have been 26 “probable” cases listed in the Upper Peninsula. Chippewa, Marquette, and Delta Counties added probable cases on Wednesday.
As of Wednesday, the state completed 1,575,162 tests, including 187,617 tests for antibodies and 1,387,545 diagnostic tests.
The state lists 53,867 people as having “recovered”. This means that they are still alive at least 30 days after having a positive test confirmed, or being diagnosed with COVID-19. That is an increase of 976 recoveries in the last week.
