Michigan Adds 573 New Cases; Twelve In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported Tuesday afternoon 573 new coronavirus cases and five new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched previous positive test results to deaths. They added fout more deaths to the state’s total.

Michigan now has 74,725 confirmed positive cases and 6,135 COVID-19 deaths.

The Upper Peninsula added 12 new cases on Tuesday. Five of them were in Gogebic County. There were two new cases each in Delta, Menominee, and Houghton Counties, and one new case in Schoolcraft County.

The U.P. has seen 364 positive test results since the crisis began in March, and 18 total deaths.

Statewide, MDHHS now lists an additional 8,334 cases and 247 deaths in the “probable” category.

There have been 38 “probable” cases reported in the Upper Peninsula.

As of Tuesday, the state completed 1,749,927 tests, including 199,230 tests for antibodies and 1,550,697 diagnostic tests.

The state also lists 55,162 people as recovered in Michigan. These are people who are still alive at least 30 days after testing positive or being diagnosed with COVID-19. This number is updated every Saturday.
