There were no new deaths reported on Sunday due to the coronavirus here in Michigan. That’s according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service. In fact, state officials announced this weekend that they removed 16 virus deaths from the statewide total because those people, are, in fact, alive.
MDHHS says it also had problems with its reporting system on Saturday, so only some test results were reported. The rest of the tests were added to Sunday’s numbers, leading to 1,041 new cases being reported.
The state has now seen 78,019 confirmed cases since the crisis began more than four months ago. Michigan has also recorded 6,149 deaths.
Michigan also announced more recoveries over the weekend. Those are people who are alive at least 30 days after being diagnosed with COVID-19 or testing positive. The state now lists 57,502 people as “recovered”, an increase of 2,340 people since the last report.
The Upper Peninsula now has 411 confirmed positive test results since the pandemic began. The U.P. also has 50 “probable” cases, which do not have a confirmed positive test result but health officials think it is COVID-19 related.
Statewide, as of Sunday, Michigan has 8,642 cases and 251 deaths that are listed in the “probable” category.
Fortunately for the Upper Peninsula, there has been only one new death reported since May 30. But health departments in the region are concerned about the recent increase in cases, especially in counties that border Wisconsin.
Michigan has also seen a dramatic increase in testing, as the state on Sunday crossed the 1.9 million mark for completed tests. Among those were 1,693,712 diagnostic tests, and another 207,540 tests for antibodies.
