State Adds 996 Cases As Older Results Added; Nine More In U.P.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 996 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, and two new deaths.

However, state officials say about 300 of those cases are from older test results that are being added after clearing up a backlog of prior test results.

Those cases have been sorted and added to the MDHHS dashboard based on the date in which the positive test result was received.

Michigan now has 80,172 positive test results since the crisis began more than four months ago, and 6,172 total deaths.

The Upper Peninsula added nine new cases on Wednesday: three in Gogebic County, two each in Marquette and Menominee Counties, and single cases in Delta and Houghton Counties.

The U.P. has seen 451 total confirmed cases since early March. The positive test rate out of the diagnostic tests conducted in the U.P. (Region Eight) is about 1.1% , according to the MDHHS dashboard.

The state also reports 56 “probable” cases for the Upper Peninsula.
